The letter is addressed to a people that Paul never met and to a church that Paul never started. The church in Colosse was started by a co-worker Epaphras who was actually from that city. Epaphras goes to visit Paul who was in a minimum security jail in Rome. Paul was able to receive visitors freely and could correspond with the leaders from the churches he had started. Epaphras informs Paul about the cultural pressures facing the church. These pressures were tempting the church to turn away from Jesus. Paul wrote this letter encouraging them to remain faithful in the midst of these challenges and to keep growing in their walk with Jesus. If you are longing for newness of life in your home, workplace, church and personal life, Colossians will teach you a new pathway to a whole new you.
